Peddi Reddy Song Meaning :
“Peddi Reddy” is a deeply emotional Telugu folk song that portrays the beautiful bond between a father and his daughter. The lyrics describe a daughter’s pride in her father’s legacy and his selfless love for her.
Here is the English meaning of the lyrics:
1. The Pride of a Daughter
The song begins with the daughter proudly identifying herself as the child of Peddi Reddy. She says her father raised her with immense respect (Gavurale) and dignity. While the entire village fears him and even “big tigers” (powerful people) go silent in his presence, he becomes as innocent as a small child (Pasodu) in front of his daughter.
2. The Joy of Her Birth
She mentions that when she was born, it was a dark, moonless night (Amavasya). However, the moment her father saw her face, his own face lit up like a bright full moon (Punnamantane). He was so overwhelmed with love that he treated his own chest as a cradle (Thottellu) to rock her to sleep.
3. Fatherly Sacrifices and Pampering
The lyrics describe how the father lived to fulfill her every wish:
Gifts: He would bring her silver anklets (Patta Golusulu) and silk dresses (Pattu Langaalu) and feel immense joy seeing her wear them.
The Horse Metaphor: She says that while she lived like a queen, her father became her “horse,” carrying all her burdens and responsibilities on his shoulders.
4. The Heartbreaking Wedding
The father performed her marriage so grandly that “seven villages” talked about it. However, beneath the celebration, he was hiding his pain. While he showered her with sacred blessing rice (Akshinthalu), he was secretly hiding his tears. She reflects on the irony: as a child, she cried if he put her down, but on her wedding day, he was the one crying as he let go of her hand.
5. Eternal Memory and Rebirth
The final verses are a tribute to his memory after his passing. She says that after she left for her in-laws’ house, her father couldn’t sleep a wink. Eventually, he went into a “deep sleep” in the earth (Mattiloo) at the burial ground (Baayigadda). To honor him, she believes her father will be reborn as her own son, and she has given her child her father’s name to keep his legacy alive forever.
